Chateau d'Arcole
The château is named after the battle of Pont d’Arcole where Véronique’s ancestor Jean Barthe fought with Napoleon as he chalked up his first victory. On account of the fact that they were both married on the same day, Napoleon gave Jean some gold coins with which he bought his first vines in Bordeaux and Chateau d’Arcole was created. D'Arcole’ was the first vineyard in St Emilion to adopt an organic approach. It is now officially certified organic and biodynamic. This environmental approach extends to every aspect of winemaking and packaging, including recycled paper for the labels, a bottle that is 10% lighter than normal, a fully-recyclable aluminium capsule and glue-free cartons made from recycled paper.
