Viognier
Viognier is one of the world's most fashionable white grape varieties, mainly due to its association with Condrieu and other regions in the increasingly fashionable Rhone Valley. It thrives in warm climates and is able to withstand drought well, hence its popularity in the Rhône and other parts of Southern France. The wines it produces are typically high in colour and alcohol and have a tell-tale perfumed character of apricots, peaches and blossom, while it is often used as a blending partner to the red variety Syrah, as in Cote-Rotie and new world Cote-Rotie lookalikes. It also appears regularly in Southern France as a varietal white wine.
