Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is a black grape variety that is valued for its thick-skinned berries that have a wonderful depth of colour. It is traditionally used in the classic Bordeaux blends where it gives the wine a wonderful deep colour and spice but it is cropping up more and more in single varietal wines in southern Europe, the Americas and Australia.A late ripening variety, which makes it hard to produce a single variety wine in Bordeaux, that is well suited to gravel soils with thick skins and small berries. When fully ripe it produces a wine that is powerful, rich, deep in colour, tannic and can be aged for a long time.
