Nativo
Billy Hughes, who was born in Argentina, was inspired to start his own wine business after moving to the Cape of South Africa in 1990. After educating himself in viticulture and winemaking, Billy and his late wife Penny purchased an old wheat farm in Malmesbury, near Cape Town, in 2000. His daughter Kiki is now in charge of ensuring the Hughes Family Wines' long-term viability, as well as working in sales and marketing for the winery. Nativo makes an effort to produce wine that reflects the region of origin while also incorporating site-specific characteristics. Despite being in business for over 20 years, Nativo Wines is still researching cutting-edge, environmentally friendly winemaking methods. They have increased the number of single-varietal wines they offer in recent years, continued to produce Nativo Amarillo, the orange wine that has come to represent their company, and created some unique cellar furnishings.
They received NOP organic certification in 2020, and they currently have full US and EU certifications. They continue to innovate and create wines with a distinct sense of origin as members of the Swartland Independent Producers. Nativo Wines are exciting tasting experiences that fully embody the Swartland region's speciality.
