Losada Vinos de Finca
Losada is amongst the top estates in Bierzo, north-western Spain. Bierzo is famous for producing some of Spain’s most elegant and complex reds from the native Mencía grape variety, and Losada is one of the greatest exponents of the style.Led since 2005 by winemaker Amancio Fernández Gómez, the estate comprises old vineyards in Valtuille, Pieros and Villadecanes planted with bush vines of Mencía on predominantly clay soils which Fernández Gómez asserts produce the most elegant Mencía. These styles are known as the “new wave” of Mencía and are often compared to red Burgundy. The winery is situated in Cacabelos on the road to Villafranca del Bierzo in the centre of a triangle formed by Cacabelos, Villafranca and Toral de los Vados, the heart of Bierzo’s vineyard. Whilst Losada is famous for Mencía – do not miss their fantastic Godello, which Jancis Robinson has described as “one of the best Godellos in Bierzo, powerful but still refined.”
