Care For Wild
Save Rhinos, to save people, to save tomorrow
Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary | Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation‘Save Rhinos, to save people, to save tomorrow’ Care For Wild is the largest orphan rhino sanctuary in the world, based in 28,000 ha of the Barberton Nature Reserve, 230 miles east of Johannesburg, South Africa. Established in 2011 by experienced conservationist, Petronel Nieuwoudt in response to the country’s poaching crisis, the team are working incredibly hard to turn the fate of South Africa’s population of endangered rhinos.
Not only does the sanctuary save the lives of endangered baby rhinos, with 80 rescued so far, but it has created much needed employment in the local community, with the opportunity to train and develop different skills needed for conservation and rehabilitation. Currently, the team employ 150 local community members in areas of anti-poaching, security, and environmental management which includes road maintenance, fire management, fence management and invasive plant control.
In September 2020, Care For Wild Brand ambassador, Ex England Cricketer and certified Rhino enthusiast, Darren Gough MBE launched the Care for Wild Wine Range in aid of the sanctuary. Not only are the wines delicious and expertly crafted in the top wine regions of South Africa, but a proportion of the profits goes to the Care for Wild Charity and we are delighted to have already donated over £17,000.
We’re proud to support Care For Wild and all their vitally important work.
