Losada Vinos de Finca
Losada Vinos de Finca is a leading name in the new wave of modern producers in DO Bierzo, NW Spain. They describe the growing region of Bierzo as an ‘inland island’. They are surrounded by mountains which protect the vines from the cooler Atlantic winds. The soils are mostly of black slate and clay. The area has the greatest concentration of old vines in the world. The winemaking style is low intervention and no chemical use in the vineyard, requiring precise winemaking in this humid environment. Led since 2005 by winemaker Amancio Fernández Gómez, the estate comprises of vineyards in Valtuille, Pieros and Villadecanes planted with old bush vines of Mencía on predominantly clay soils which Fernández Gómez asserts produce the most elegant Mencía. They also produce exceptional Godello which sets the bar for the quality this grape is capable of – saline-edged, with delicate floral notes and an intriguing minerality.
